Energy Star Homes
in El Paso

Form and function don’t need to be opposed when constructing a new home in El Paso. In fact, efficient design can also look fantastic, which is something our new home builders prove with each home we design and build.

An aspect of a home’s overall function is its efficiency, which offers short and long-term benefits for homeowners. Winton Homes builds affordable homes using the robust energy standards of Energy Star, an EPA-run program that promotes effective energy-efficient practices and solutions.

A new home that abides by Energy Star requirements isn’t only more efficient but more durable and comfortable to live in. By choosing a Winton home, you choose a home that saves money, looks great, and feels better!

The Features of Energy Star Homes

Each part of the home needs special attention for any new home to qualify for Energy Star certification. How does each and every home we build reach these standards? Some variables that inspectors look for include the following:

  • HVAC system, thermostat
  • Windows and doors
  • Roofs, ceilings, attics, etc
  • Ductwork and vents
  • Walls (exterior and interior)
  • Water heating
  • Appliances, lighting

Why would the government or homeowners care about Energy Star certification? More new homes built for longevity and efficiency can ease the strain on the grid and available resources. And as an added bonus, this means money saved and a better home design for homeowners.

The Benefits of an El Paso Energy Star Home

So Energy Star homes perform better, but how much better are they? Well, our homes are routinely verified to use 15 – 30% less energy than traditional new homes. Again, this means more money in your wallet because it prevents unnecessary power use. Not to mention studies show that energy-efficient homes also have better resale value.

In Texas and New Mexico, home efficiency is measured using the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index. The HERS Index is a national system that uses strict metrics and testing to evaluate homes. The index is on a scale of 0 to 150, with 0 representing perfect efficiency and 150 meaning a maximally inefficient home. While the average new home may have a score of around 70 or 80, our tract, semi-custom, and custom homes routinely receive scores below 40.

Our commitment to Energy Star standards and energy efficiency has led our home building company to earn an Energy Star Award in the Partner of the Year category.
